Debbie Schaub Fifth Grade Math, Science, and Social Studies

Here I am again!  On this computer!  An old dog trying to learn new tricks!  I’m getting better!  Yes, this is Deborah Schaub, getting to be one of the oldest teachers on the staff at Northeast Elementary School.  Getting older doesn’t really bother me much but, my outside just doesn’t go with the outside so much anymore.

I came to the teaching profession with two pockets full of emotions:  I was one of those ornery students who tried everything and school just was not easy for me.  So, one pocket was filled with a special compassion for tricks, feelings, and understanding of some behavior.

The other pocket was running over with love for children.  I was going to be the one who cheered them up on a bad day just because they knew I cared and had a hug for them.

It all began with a BS in Education from Pittsburg State University in 1975.  I taught first grade in Edna, Kansas for two years.  Moved back to Arma and taught  Special Reading for one year and third grade for three semesters.

My husband John then gave the most wonderful gift of my life!  three children and fifteen years of being an “at home mom.”

Then it was back to college to renew my degree.  I was lucky enough to get a position here at Northeast Elementary in 1994 teaching third, fourth, and fifth grade math.  When I was in school, I hated math so this was a true challenge!  Now, math is my favorite subject to teach and I teach math along with science and social studies to the fifth grade.

I love my job!  It has changed a lot.  But, I still remember a lot of my student pranks and now I have realized why I pulled them and maybe I have helped students deal with those feelings they have in a more appropriate manner.  I might not be able to cheer up your child on a bad day but, I still love children, I still have a warm smile, and a BIG BEAR HUG for anyone who needs or wants it.
