Mrs. Herrell's 4th grade Social Studies classes have been studying the North Central Region area of the United States which, of course, includes our state of Kansas. Each student made a Fan Book of the 12 states that make up the North Central Region. For each state they looked up the capital and other major cities, the population, the flower, tree, and bird, the major farm and manufacturing product, and at least one key fact about the state.
They put this information on a 3" by 9" card stock and attached the state outline to the top of the card. We then put them together with brass fastners so they "fan" out. The students enjoyed learning more about the region we live in which is the most important farming region in the United States. They also worked in small groups and made posters showing the different types of farming done in this region.4th Graders "Fan Out" the North Central Region
