KSDE Standards Writing Committee Works on State Project
by Linda Roberts
January 30, 2006
Library media, which includes the standards of information literacy, independent learning, and social responsibility, has been given the charge to also include technology standards in its upcoming revision. The Library Media and Technology Standards Writing Committee began its work in December 2005 and will continue through the Spring of 2006. An additional assignment given to the committee is to develop a technology assessment for eighth graders.
Jackie Lakin, QPA Technical Assistant / Library Media Consultant, and Craig Gerdes, Educational Technology Consultant, for the Kansas State Department of Education are co-chairs of the writing committee. Linda Roberts, LMS at Northeast High School and the state president of the Kansas Association of School Librarians is also a member of this committee along with a select group of KASL members.
The writing committee meets in Topeka and members are using blogs and a writing program to communicate between meetings. This is an exciting opportunity for our school district to have an active participant on this committee.
