August 15, 2006

The Board held a short reception for the new staff to the District at 6:30 PM.  At 6:45 PM, the Board opened the Budget Hearing.  There was no public comment on the budget.  The Budget Hearing adjourned at 7:00 PM.

The Board opened the regular meeting at 7:00 PM. and approved the CONSENT AGENDA, which included:

  • Minutes of the July 17, 2006 meeting;
  • Treasurer's Report;
  • Payment of Bills;
  • Acceptance of the MILK BID for 2006-2007; and
  • A Resolution authorizing application for phase one of the Safe Routes to Schools grant from the Kansas Department of Transportation.

INFORMATION ITEMS

1.         Principals Larry Hill, Nichola Traul and Ken Cleland gave building updates to the Board.

2.         Superintendent Rivers briefed the Board on reapportionment of voting districts.  The District is waiting to get the census data in a form that will allow it to determine the population of the existing voting districts.  If the population of those districts is not within 5% of the others, the Board will need to develop a plan to balance the voting districts.  Mr. Rivers reported that he did not believe changes, if necessary, would be complete in time for the spring Board of Education election.

3.         The Board took a tour of District facilities.  Discussion of facility needs will continue at next month's meeting.

ACTION ITEMS

1.      The Board adopted the 2006-2007 Budget as published.

2.      The Board went into executive session to discuss negotiations.

3.      The Board employed Craig Stewart (custodian), Pam Courtney (teacher's aide) and Jean Linville (lunchroom aide).
