IINFORMATION
ITEMS
1. Principals Alan Roberts, Ken Cleland, Larry Hill and
Nicki Traul shared information about events in their buildings and
the recent Site Council meeting with the Board.
2. Superintendent Rivers welcomed newly elected Board members Larry Yartz, Ann Miss, Jackie Sisk and Joe Broyles to the meeting. They will take office in July. He also encouraged attendance at the Kansas Association of School Boards New Board Member Workshop in Iola on May 8th. Additionally, he encouraged the sitting Board to attend the Spring Regional Meeting in Moran the evening of May 8th.
DISCUSSION
ITEMS
1. The Board discussed a draft of a new Public
Participation Policy and requested additional revisions. The Policy
will be placed on the May meeting agenda for possible final
action.
2. The Board considered the Northeast Curriculum Council's recommended Instructional Requirements for 2007-2008. Final action on the recommendations was postponed until May to allow the Curriculum Council to discuss its process of communication of curriculum recommendations with the district staff.
ACTION ITEMS
1. The Board took action to accept the bid from Home
Center Construction to add three classrooms to Northeast Elementary
School. The bid was $550,900 and the tentative completion date is
October 13, 2007.
2. The Board adopted a resolution formalizing its support of efforts to implement a block schedule at Northeast Junior High School.
3. The Board, by consensus, appointed Cindy Bedene and Kathryn Richard as members of the district's professional negotiations team.
The Board entered EXECUTIVE SESSION to discuss non-elected personnel.
4. The Board accepted the resignation of Sue Barber as elementary school aide.
5. The Board employed Tina Valenzuela as elementary school aide.
6. The Board employed Steve Mahnken as a third grade teacher for the 2007-2008 school year.
7. The Board adopted a Resolution to notify a teacher of its intent not to renew the teaching contract for 2007-2008.
