Attention, Veterans
by Susan Lofts
August 01, 2007
Sophomores in American History will start the year by being involved in the National Veterans History Project. This project was created to honor veterans and preserve their stories using an interview process and creating a DVD. Original documents may also be donated such as pictures, letters, diaries or discharge papers. The record of the interviews conducted will be sent to and remain on permanent archive at the Library of Congress.
Also eligible are civilians who worked in support of the war
effort. All veterans are encouraged to participate and we would
especially like to interview veterans of the World War II era. Any
family member of a deceased veteran may also contribute a story or
interview. A letter will be sent out to veterans in the
district once the school year has begun, but please contact Susan Lofts (620-347-4115) if
you are willing to share your story. The sharing of your stories is
the best history lessen our students can learn. We look forward to
the opportunity of honoring you and hearing your story.
