Mrs. Vanderpool's Kindergarten Room

by Debbie Vanderpool

September 13, 2007

Mrs. Vanderpool's kindergarten class is on the road to a great year. We've been busy learning a letter each week.  Parents please watch your child's papers for the letters and numbers that we are learning.  I encourage parents to go over these papers daily with their child and help them to learn the letters and numbers we are working on.

We welcome our student teacher, Mrs Teresa Jameson, from Pittsburg State University.  She's married, a mother of five children and will be graduating in December.  She has been a tremendous help, as we have 17 students:  seven little ladies and ten little gentlemen.  Miss Kelsie Grant is also a great help in our classroom.  She's a member of the Cadet Teaching Program from Northeast High School.  She is job shadowing teachers her senior year.  She wishes to pursue a degree in elementary education from P.S.U. after graduating in May.

We have been working real hard on learning to write our first name, as well as, recognize our name in print.  Students will soon be working on learning to write their last name neatly and correctly.  We count each day on our counting chart.  Students are excited about getting to the 50th day, as we will have a 50th day of kindergarten party.  What another fun day that will be!  Just a reminder, show-and-tell is each Friday.  This is a great opportunity for your child to come forth in front of their peers and show something they have brought or tell about something important to them.  Please help by reminding  your child to either bring an object or story to share.  Students bring a library book home weekly.  This is a great time to spend with your child by reading their book to them and discussing what the book is about.    This is indeed going to be a great school year!
