The Board heard from Joan Burke representing Head Start for SEK CAP. Ms. Burke provided the Board with background on the Head Start program and inclusive preschool collaboration between Head Start, Greenbush, Interlocal 637 and Northeast Schools.
The Board approved the consent agenda that included:
- Minutes of the regular meeting on February 11, 2008
- The treasurer's report
- Bills presented for payment approval
- The building activity fund reports
The Board heard staff reports from the building principals, a report on the Interlocal from board representative Ann Miss, a site council update from Cheryl Robinson, a technology update from Steve Lechliter and last minute updates from superintendent Randy Rivers.
The Board discussed, at length, issues to be addressed regarding technology in the district.
Superintendent Rivers introduced possible amendments to the classified staff handbook and asked the board to review the current handbook and make suggestions for further improvements. The handbook issues will be presented to district staff and returned to the Board for possible action in May.
The Board approved a calendar for the 2008-2009 school year. The inclusion of late-start staff collaboration days was left off of the calendar for the time being to allow further investigation of alternatives to provide time for regular staff meetings.
The Board approved a policy requiring pre-employment background checks for new classified employees, a pre-employment physical capacity profile for all new employees and a pre-employment drug screen for all new employees.
The Board approved a policy on bullying, including cyber-bullying in the schools.
The Board entered a brief executive session to discuss negotiations.
The Board entered executive session with the administrative staff to discuss non-elected personnel.
The Board employed Rhonda Riley as a Title I Aide at Northeast Elementary.
The Board employed Phil Hobbs as 2008-2009 high school social studies teacher and head football coach.
The Board employed Dennis Kimzey as 2008-2009 high school communications technology teacher and assistant football coach.
The Board transferred Jeff Sigmon from a part-time custodial position to a full-time position.
The Board regretfully accepted the resignation of Taryn Feldhausen as kindergarten teacher.
The Board approved the addition of a third assistant baseball coaching position.
