The board approved the consent agenda that included:
- Minutes of the March 10, 2008 board meeting
- Minutes of the March 3, 4, 5 Special meetings
- Minutes of the April 7 Special meeting
- The treasurer's report
- Bills submitted for payment
- Building Activity fund reports
The principals shared brief summaries of building level highlights
Board member Ann Miss briefed the Board on highlights from the March and April Interlocal board meetings. She also shared ideas for improving communications with district patrons.
Mr. Rivers briefed the board on progress with the job description handbook, the Kansas Association of School Business Officials (KASB) conference and displayed two plaques that will be placed in the 2003 and 2007 facility improvements.
The board reviewed recommendations from the building principal on proposed changes to student handbooks for 2008-2009. The board will take final action on the handbooks at the May meeting.
The principals briefed the board on class schedule changes and adjustments for the 2008-2009 school year.
The board discussed its options for recruiting an interim superintendent for 2008-2009.
The board approved expenditures of no more than $5,000 for community involvement landscaping projects around Northeast Elementary School pending submission of a logistical plan from the site council.
The board entered executive session to discuss certified staff negotiations.
The board entered executive session to discuss non-elected personnel.
The board employed Brad Sweezey as a district custodian / maintenance helper.
The board employed Karen Knaup as elementary counselor for the 2008-2009 school year.
The board accepted the resignation of Lacey Likely from all supplemental duties (coaching) for the 2008-2009 school year.
The board accepted the resignation of Kristy Rivers as NJH Language arts teacher and head high school volleyball coach.
The board entered a series of executive sessions to discuss non-elected personnel and to review applications for interim superintendent candidates.
The board scheduled a special meeting for Thursday April 17th at 6:30 PM to discuss the interim superintendent application process.
The board tentatively scheduled dates for interim superintendent interviews on Monday, April 28th, Tuesday, April 29th and Wednesday, April 30th at 6:00 PM.
