April 19, 2008

Throughout the week of April 13-19, the Northeast High School Library Media Center celebrated National Library Week. The activities included the following:
Monday, April 14: “Reference Crossword Activity”
Students completed the “Reference Crossword” and turned them in to the LMC and received a ticket for a chance to be entered into a drawing on Friday, April 18th for an autographed copy of Copper Sun by Sharon Draper.
Tuesday, April 15: National Library Worker’s Day/Lunch in the LMC
Teachers, staff, and aides were invited to eat pizza, salad, and cake in honor of the day. Tickets were given out to those in attendance and three door prizes were awarded. Prizes were given to Officer Chris Wilson, Aide Samantha Cunningham, and Aide Autumn Clark as their names were drawn. They all were allowed to choose from a variety of books. The event was a great success and enjoyed by all. NHS gives a big thanks to all the library workers who make running a library so much easier with their help.
Wednesday, April 16: Great American Read Aloud
In the morning, NHS National Honor Society Students traveled to the Northeast Elementary/Junior High to read to the K-5 students. Seniors Jordan Doherty, Abby Bartelli, Rori Stephens, Emily Kuhel, and juniors Andrea Ashbacher, Keanna Bartelli, Kelsey Rivers, and Morgan Stokes spent part of their morning reading aloud to students during two different sessions. In the afternoon, NHS Teachers Susan Lofts and Alan Pommier read to high school students selections of their favorite readings. Both sessions were successful and provided educational entertainment that the students really enjoyed.
Thursday, April 17: AR Day
Students were given tickets throughout the day each time they checked out a book or tested on an Accelerated Reader book. These students were then entered into a drawing for an autographed copy of Copper Sun by Sharon Draper.
Friday, April 18: “Popcorn Number” Sack Snack
During the lunch period students were handed out popcorn with numbers written on the outside of the sack. At the end of the lunch period three numbers were drawn and those students were able to choose from a variety of book prizes. Great American Read Aloud 2008
