Phoenix Crain, 7th grader, reads to elementary students during National Library Week.

Northeast celebrates National Library Week.

April 22, 2008

To celebrate National Library Week,  April 13th - 19th, Jr. High students took time out of their normal class day to read aloud to elementary students in kindergarten, first and second grades.  Students picked two books from the elementary library to read to their groups on Tuesday and Thursday from 2:30 - 2:55 in classrooms and hallways.  The kids really seemed to enjoy it.  There were stories shared by both sets of students.

National Library Week is a great time to celebrate the contributions of libraries, librarians and library workers in schools, campuses and communities nationwide--and the perfect time to discover how you can join the circle of knowledge at your library.

Which is what this year's theme is: Join the Circle of Knowledge @ Your Library!

Other activities to celebrate the week included "The Great American Read Aloud" hosted by the high school's librarian, Mrs. Jennie Wright and the National Honor Society, on Wednesday, April 15th. Several high school students came to the grade school Wednesday morning from 10:00 - 11:00 to read to students in grades kindergarten through fifth grades.  This is a yearly event.

A special thanks to Mrs. Leek and Mr. Rivers who allowed their students to participate in the read aloud Tuesday and Thursday during their scheduled classes.
