NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY INDUCTION CEREMONY
Eight students from Northeast High School were inducted into membership of the Northeast chapter of the National Honor Society in an evening ceremony September 17, 2008 at the high school. Members were selected by the faculty council for meeting high standards of scholarship, service, leadership and character.
Students inducted were seniors Daniel Davied and Brandi Jo Williams, and juniors Whitney Brooks, Kari Cavin, Nicholas Popejoy, Salette Schlee, Makenzie Stansbury and Christopher Ward.
Music was provided by Linda Roberts. A musical number, “When You Have a Friend” was performed by the Northeast High SchoolChoir, directed by Forrest Parr.
A welcome was given by Mr. Alan Roberts, Principal of Northeast High School. Guest speakers for the event included Debra Barone, Anthony Gorentz, Beverly Pommier, and Alan Pommier. Installation of new officers was conducted by Jordan Doherty, the 2007-2008 president of the Northeast Chapter of the National Honor Society.
Officers for the 2008-2009 school year are Andrea Ashbacher, president; Morgan Stokes, vice-president; and Keanna Bartelli, secretary/treasurer. Chapter advisor is Patricia Tassi-McKee. The Northeast High School Chapter has been active since 1933. The National Honor Society ranks as one of the oldest and most prestigious national organizations for high school students. More than 12,500 chapters are chartered in th4e nation’s high schools. Millions of dollars in scholarships have been awarded to senior members since 1945 when the National Honor Society Scholarship Awards Program was established. The program is sponsored by the National Association of Secondary School Principals.
A reception was held after the ceremony for members, parents and guests.
