3rd Graders Celebrate Earth Day

It took a disastrous oil spill in Santa Barbara, California in 1969 to spark and idea that is still celebrated around the world today.
Earth Day was officially born on April 22, 1970. The idea of a Wisconsin Senator and the efforts of a young college student, celebrations are now held all over the world to preserve, honor, and peak awareness of environmental factors around us.
Third graders in Mrs. Kotzman and Mr. Wade’s classes joined in the Earth Day celebration this year. Students took time this week to talk about ways they can reduce, reuse, and recycle, and how Mother Nature recycles.
On Earth Day, students patrolled the area around the school searching out the litter of others and disposing of it properly. Later they helped to beautify the campus by pulling weeds, and planting flowers and vegetables in the flower box outside Mrs. Kotzman’s classroom.
Classes rounded out the week by reusing some things found in nature to make a natural picture frame complete with picture for parents to enjoy.
