NEHS Hosts Summer Drama Camp
by Lori Pommier
May 19, 2009
Northeast High School will be hosting a Summer Forensics Camp for any current or incoming Northeast High School student who would like to participate in Forensics next year.
Date: July 25
Time: Noon to Midnight
Place: High School Music Room
Cost: $15 – includes 2010 season t-shirt and munchies
We will be having voice, diction and breathing lessons, and we will explore events and pieces for the 2010 season. Entry forms will be sent home with grade cards, and are due to Lori Pommier by July 1.
Forensics is a speech and drama club that competes in the spring. Students prepare events such as prose, poetry, solo acting, duet acting, and speeches to take to competitions. We try to attend 8-10 competitions in the spring, and we are hosting our own event on April 16, 2010 at Girard.
This year, eight students participated in State Forensics, with one of those students breaking into semi-finals. Mrs. Pommier's goals for the 2010 season are to have 10 or more students qualify for state and have at least two events break into state semi-finals, and to win a sweepstakes trophy at at least one tournament.
Although there will not be a forensics class available this school year, the club will begin meeting and practicing before and / or after school in November. The contest season starts in January and ends in May.
