November 24, 2009
Two Northeast Students have been selected for special vocal honors. Junior Elizabeth Banks and 8th grader Ellie Dearring have been named to honors choirs in Kansas.
Elizabeth Banks was selected to participate in the Southeast Kansas District Choir after successfully auditioning in Chanute on November 7. Other students auditioning were Albert Bohn, Stephanie Collier, Dakota Kuhel, Brittany McCloud, Phoenix Smith, and Kenzi Tims. On December 5, Elizabeth will travel to Altamont, spend all day rehearsing with the rest of the choir, followed by a performance at 4;30. The District Band, District Jazz Band, and District Orchestra will also perform at the concert. Elizabeth will be joined by 170 students from the Southeast Kansas area, and they will present of concert of traditional and contemporary music in several different languages, including English, German, Latin and Russian.
Ellie Dearring was selected as an alternate to the State Middle Level Choir that takes place in conjunction with the Kansas Music Educators Inservice Workshop at Wichita in February. The State Middle Level Choir is open to students in grades 7-9, and the auditions take place by recording each student singing a specific selection. As an alternate, Ellie will join the 150 middle school students from across the state if someone else is unable to participate.
Congratulations to both students!
