Northeast Junior High School Recognized as Gold Standard School
March 24, 2010
The Kansas Association of Middle School Administrators has released the names of those middle schools in the state who are dedicated to promoting education, and have demonstrated great success. KSMSA will formally recognize Northeast Jr. High School as a Gold Standard school on May 3, at the KAMSA spring conference in Topeka. The gold standard is measured by growth in building-wide percentage of students meeting “School Wide” Standard of Excellence of proficiency in math or reading. This is the highest level of achievement that a school can achieve. According to Lawrence Hill, Principal, the staff has been working the past years to improve their school district. We have done this through the concerted effort of the staff, and curriculum changes and implementation. The school has made several changes directed towards helping the students make better choices in the way they approach school daily work and homework. Because after all, homework is a continuation of the school day and students will benefit from homework if done properly and responsibly. The staff identified the weakness of each student and made a concerted effort to improve each of those students in their area of weakness. According to Mr. Hill, the school’s staff is very dedicated to helping each student, and take great pride in what they do every day. The staff works as a team and this reflects in our scores on state testing and the continuing growth of the students.
