Student Business Plays Cupid

After a semester of studying business practices, members of the Introduction to Business class at Northeast High School are ready to go public…literally. As part of a pilot program, the class is implementing a curriculum where students and their teacher buy stocks of a company they develop and operate. The eleven students have named their corporation “Captains of Industry”. The students will earn dividends based on the number of shares they purchase.
The corporation, complete with the purchase of stocks, establishment of a kiosk and promotional materials, boasts a very sweet product line. For their first venture, the students are selling Valentine balloon bouquets. There are four different bouquets ranging in price from $7.50 to $22.00 based on the number of balloons in each and the size of stuffed animal holding the helium-filled balloons.
Students will be taking orders through February 11, with delivery on Valentine’s Day. There is no sales tax and no delivery charge; however, due to time constraints of the day, deliveries will be limited to a 20 mile radius.
Captains of Industry members are Todd Brennon, Jordan Doherty, Rebeckah Flinn, Curtis Harlan, William Howard, Curtis Major, Jesse Snider, Vittorio Trabucco, Sylvain Veenman, Nicole Weir and Brandi Wiley. For more information on sending a sweet message to your Valentine, contact one of the “Captains of Industry” or their CEO, Renee’ Popejoy at (620)347-4115 ext. 119.
