What’s orange and goes back and forth and back and forth? The KAY Floor Crew! As a school service project for Northeast High School, students in KAY have volunteered their time to sweep the gym floors at half time and between games during home competitions.
Principal Alan Roberts saw a need and approached the group, “I told them that if they’d help us out, I’d buy them t-shirts to identify their group.” Little did Roberts know the students would choose bright orange!
These nineteen students and their sponsor, Renee’ Popejoy, swept the floors at high school home games, two junior high home games and all three nights of the freshman girls’ tournament. To earn their shirt, the students had to help out twice; since some were Floor Crew members that also played basketball earned their shirts at either the jr. high games or the girls’ tournament.
“I think this was a great project for us. I plan on making the Floor Crew a permanent part of our service to the school,” said Popejoy. “I’m very pleased with the way the students stepped up and covered for each other. I only had to fill in twice.”
Members of the 2007-2008 Floor Crew are: senior Ryan Clark; juniors MeMe Evans and Kurtis Camp; sophomores Korina Oliver, Nick Popejoy, Donna Buck, Whitney Brooks, Makenzie Stansbury, Curtis Major, Heidi Kralicek, Nicole Weir, Jesse Snider, Stephanie Collier, Joe Tiner, Dallas Hendricks, Dayzsa Newberry, Sarah Lucas; and freshmen Ally Boles, Brittany McCloud and Heather Williams.
