New Credit Recovery Classes Begin
New for the 2008 – 2009 school year at Northeast High School year is are four credit recovery classes taught by Mr. Ken Cleland. The classes are designed to provide Northeast students the opportunity to recover classes that they have failed, thus lowering the dropout rate. National studies have shown that those students who are a grade level behind their peers are more likely to drop out than those who are on grade level.
The program uses the computer program “PassKey” to recover the classes they have failed. All work is done on the computer but Mr. Cleland is there as a facilitator but also as a tutor. Having taught social studies and mathematics for over thirty years, he has the experience to help struggling students to not only recover their failed classes, but also pass classes they are currently struggling with. Currently there are fifteen students enrolled in the program. At semester, some will exit the program and others will join the class.
