Seniors Make Their Mark

For eighteen seniors at NEHS, finding a parking space at school will not be a problem. As part of a school service project sponsored by KAY (Kansas Association for Youth), these students met at the parking lot last Sunday to decorate their parking spaces in “Senior Row”.
The students paid $3 to help defray the cost of the paint, and then their names were put in a lottery-type drawing to choose spaces. “I couldn’t believe how much paint it took,” said senior Curtis Major, KAY president. “The metallic silver and gold were the best!”
Front row spaces are reserved for staff with the decorated spaces
in the second row being reserved for those eighteen seniors. “The
best part is getting to decorate it however you want,” said senior
Salette Schlee.
“I want mine to stay here forever,” said Brandi Wiley, senior.
Wiley’s request isn’t practical, however, as the club plans to make
this an annual event.
Sponsor Renee’ Popejoy brought the idea to the club’s officers
after seeing senior spaces at Parsons High School this summer. “As
soon as I saw those, I knew our kids would love this,” said
Popejoy. “The kids had so much fun painting the spaces. It is great
that our club had the funds to purchase over 40 cans of paint for
the project.”
The KAY club would like to thank Home Depot in Pittsburg, Kansas,
for helping make this project a reality.
